hereSummary: Seems like the only thing to keep a body warm at night is to sleep next to another.
It were ruttin cold and there weren’t nothin’ they could do about it. Or at least, nothin’ until that part arrived in two days time, then Kaylee would get them fixed up in a jiffy.
Until then though, they were left wearin’ as many layers as they could find and cuddlin’ together for warmth. Well, the couple cuddled together and River attached herself to Inara. With the Sheppard dirt side at some retreat, that only really left Mal with one option. Jayne. Which to say, wasn’t an option at all.
He had plenty of sweaters, gloves and a scarf. He even had a nice blue hat knitted by Jayne’s Ma to keep his head nice and toasty. Sure it wasn’t the comfiest of things to sleep in, but he’d rather that than freeze.
He’d spent two night’s in his woollen cocoon and was preparing for a third when the hatch to his bunk opened and down climbed an all to familiar pair of boots.
“What do you want Jayne?” he asked as he wrapped his scarf around his neck.
“I’m cold,” Jayne said as he slammed the hatch shut.
“We’re all cold Jayne,” Mal said as he rolled his eyes.
“Yeah but everyone’s got more clothes and better blankets than me.”
“Ain’t my fault you spend all your money on ammo,” Mal told him as he kicked off his boots and pulled out an extra pair of socks to put on before he went to bed for the night.
“Look,” Jayne said as he stepped forward, “I think it would be a good idea if we started sharin’.”
Mal looked over his shoulder at him as if he’d just grown a second head, “Uh, how about no?”
“Oh c’mon Mal. It’s only for two days and it ain’t like we gotta tell no one.”
“I can’t believe we’re actually havin’ this conversation.”
“Mal, I haven’t slept for the past two nights. I’m about runnin’ on empty here.”
Mal sat down on the edge of his bed and pulled on the extra socks before looking up at Jayne, “You ain’t gonna let me get any sleep until I say yes ain’t ya?”
Jayne shrugged, “Desperate times.”
Mal sighed. It weren’t like the idea of sharing body heat was a bad one, he just wished it were with anyone but Jayne. The man was so damn big there weren’t no way he wouldn’t hog the covers.
“Fine,” he said, climbing into the bed, “but you snore and you’re out on your ass.”
Jayne grinned and climbed in with him, wrapping his big body around Mal’s back, “I promise, no snoring.”
As Jayne settled against him, a strong arm wrapping itself around Mal’s body for lack of having anywhere else to go, Mal couldn’t help but notice the amount of heat being radiated from Jayne. The man was like a furnace. He knew it weren’t exactly the most ‘captainy’ thing to do but he couldn’t stop himself from pushing back against him.
Jayne, whose breath had been brushing against the back of Mal’s head, froze for a second before his breath started coming out in hot, slightly faster puffs.
“Y’all right?” Mal asked, his voice a lot quieter than he intended.
“Shiny,” Jayne grunted, shifting a little to get comfier and that’s when Mal felt it.
Little Jayne was apparently enjoying the shared heat too. Mal tried not to tense as he didn’t want to let Jayne that he knew - although, with it pressed right up against his ass, it would be pretty difficult for him not to know - and then of course, Jayne’s arm slipped down a little, his fingers gently brushing against Mal’s body and causing little Mal to become just as interested.
Mal squeezed his eyes shut and willed his erection away, however, his body had other ideas as it pushed back against Jayne once again. Jayne let out a small groan and pushed forward, deliberately rubbing himself up against Mal’s ass.
Mal turned his head to tell him that he’d gotten the wrong idea, that Mal hadn’t meant anything by it, but before he could, his mouth was captured by Jayne’s mouth, silencing whatever words were attempting to escape his lips. Mal was so surprised - not that Jayne was kissing him, but that he was such a good kisser - that he completely forgot himself and turned into the kiss, wrapping himself around Jayne and thrusting against him in search for some friction.
From that point on, it was a blur of woollen clothing being torn off as slick skin slid against the other and soon Mal was lying underneath a very large, very hairy mercenary and enjoying every second of it.
As they came down from their high, bodies soaked in sweat and sharing soft kisses under mountains of blankets and discarded clothing, Mal couldn’t stop himself from smiling, “You planned this, didn’t you?”
Jayne gave a sheepish smile of his own as he nodded, “Maybe a little bit.”
Mal rolled his eyes and pulled Jayne closer to him, “Well at least it ain’t cold no more.”
