DAY FIVE

It was Mal who was woken by the sound of running water this time. Opening his eyes he saw steam coming out of the shower. Jayne had kept him up pretty late producing all kinds of bodily delight with his mouth and hands. He was sure to have some more love bites on his body, although these ones would be well hidden. But it was because of the late night that he couldn’t get his body into gear this morning and get up to join Jayne in the shower, instead he dozed until he was woken by the feeling of Jayne sitting on the bed as he put h is boots on.

“Hey, where you goin?” Mal asked as he flung his arms round Jayne and tried to pull him back into bed. Because he was still half asleep and his body was still very tired, he was unsuccessful and had to make do to just clinging to Jayne’s back as the other man laced up his boots and tried not to laugh at Mal.

“Yesterday afternoon when you was off arguing with Inara, me, Wash and Zoe all sat down and worked out a new rota. What were you and her arguing about anyway?” Jayne asked as he looked at Mal over his shoulder.

“Oh that… you.”

“Me?”

“She said some mean things that implied that you was an easy lay and that you were dumb… if she was a guy I would have punched her,” As Mal finished telling him this he kissed Jayne’s neck lightly as if to let Jayne know that he really did care about him.

“So she finally reacted then?”

“Yeah, I think she must have been stewing on it a while. But tell me more about this new rota,” Mal said as he fought the urge to fall asleep on Jayne’s warm shoulder. He was sure he was drooling.

“Well the way it worked out, I’m doin an early this mornin and you, you lucky dog, get to do a late tonight,” Jayne told him as he stood up and tried to get Mal to lie back down.

“Wait, but that means Wash and Zoe get two straight days off. That aint exactly fair,” Mal protested.

“Don’t you worry about that none, it’ll work itself out in the end. Now go back to sleep before you pass out and fall on the floor.”

Mal did as he was told and felt Jayne kiss him on the head before he heard him leaving.

Two hours later, as Mal made his way to breakfast he could hear someone wolf whistle (sounded like Kaylee) and lots of laughter. Why someone was whistling and what at he didn’t know, but it was doing nothing to improve his mood anyway. Zoe had no right to go changing the rota like that.

“I mean it Jayne they really suit you. You should wear them more often,” Simon said, referring to the merc’s glasses. It was the first time he and the rest of the crew had seen Jayne wearing them, and apparently they thought he suited them as much as Mal did.

“Yeah well, I figure that while it’s just us on the ship I can get away with wearing them and rest my eyes a bit from the lenses,” Jayne smiled when he noticed Mal come in and sit down in a very bad mood. He waited until he took a bite of his toast before continuing, “Besides, I have it on good authority that they make me look hot.”

No one (except maybe River) could have predicted what happened next;

At hearing what Jayne had just said and being absolutely mortified with embarrassment, Mal started choking on his toast. Jayne gave him one big beefy whack between the shoulder blades to help dislodge the offending item and then they all watched as if in slow motion as it jumped from Mal’s mouth, flew flawlessly through the air and landed squarely between the eyes of Inara.

Jayne for his part didn’t look sorry at all, just kept rubbing Mal’s back where he had hit him until Mal got his breath back. Mal couldn’t have looked more like a deer caught in the headlights if he tried. He couldn’t believe he actually spat his toast onto Inara of all people. Inara slowly took the dish towel and wiped her face with it before she said;

“It certainly does feel good to be home,” Then she simply smiled and went back to her own breakfast.

Everyone sat still in shock for a moment before they all began to laugh softly and went back to their own breakfasts.

“Je su Jayne, you tryin to kill me?” Mal asked as he took a sip of coffee to wet his now very dry throat.

“If I wanted to do that, I’d just shoot you in your sleep,” Jayne deadpanned.

Mal stared at him for a moment before laughing at the man who he was quickly starting to care deeply for. Watching him there, eating his breakfast and laughing with the rest of the crew, smelling like limes whilst wearing those glasses… Weren’t right for an individual to be that hot this early in the morning and cause such stirrings in a man’s personal regions. He would just have to drag him back into his bunk after breakfast to help him sort the matter.

Which is exactly what he did. However, as quickly as he had gotten Jayne down the ladder, he lost control over the situation just as quick.

Jayne had him pinned to the wall and had quickly pushed Mal’s pants and underwear down round his ankles. Getting down onto his knees, Jayne held Mal still as he slowly licked his way up Mal’s thigh. Mal couldn’t help but buck his hips, but Jayne had a strong grip on him and managed to hold him still as he placed soft, teasing kisses on each hip and on his navel. Mal groaned impatiently, as much as he enjoyed Jayne’s mouth he wasn’t in the mood for teasing. Jayne could tell that Mal was getting mighty impatient, so he quickly gave one last teasing lick from the base of Mal’s diao to the tip, before he stood up, licked his palm and took hold of Mal and began to work him into a frenzy. Mal couldn’t have been anymore frustrated. Jayne had done the same thing last night. He had teased him with the promise of getting sucked off but had yet to do it and the thought of Jayne on his knees in front of Mal, blowing him, just made him even hornier.

Watching Mal writhe against the wall, Jayne couldn’t help but notice how gorram sexy he looked.

“Lao tian ye Mal, ni shi er meili,” he whispered into Mal’s ear.

Mal turned and pulled Jayne into a deep kiss as he felt himself fall over the edge. Jayne kept kissing him and stroking him until he felt Mal go completely limp. He brought his hand up and licked himself clean. Mal watched with a strange, calculating intensity before he reached down and slowly began to open up Jayne’s pants.

Once he had Jayne in s similar dressed state as himself he carefully shuffled them back a few paces so that Jayne sat on the bed. Mal reached over and grabbed a pillow before throwing it on the ground at Jayne’s feet. His reasoning was that one of them had to take this first step to progress things and it might as well be him. Kneeling down he caught Jayne’s eyes. He was still wearing his glasses but they were sitting at a somewhat jonty angle now.

“You don’t gotta do this Mal.”

“I know, but maybe,” Mal said as he kissed Jayne’s thigh, “I want to.”

Jayne just held his breath. He sat and watched as Mal slowly kissed his way up between his legs before gently kissing his way up his diao. Jayne wasn’t sure that Mal was gonna go through with it as he stopped for a second as if he was having second thoughts, but as it turned out he was just changing his angle, because a second later Mal’s mouth surrounded him.

Mal started off slowly sucking and teasing Jayne, using his tongue to apply pressure to the shaft, but when Jayne groaned and thread his fingers through his hair urging him on, he couldn’t help but comply. He began to work quicker, sucking him hard whilst playing gently with his balls. He was faintly aware of Jayne mumbling incoherently before, without any warning except maybe a tightening of the grip on his hair, Jayne exploded in his mouth. Mal swallowed his load down and kept sucking softly until he was sure there was no more left. As soon as he had finished Jayne pulled him up onto his lap and kissed him hard.

It had been a long time since Jayne had tasted himself on someone else, and if every blowjob was as good as that, he was gonna make sure he tasted himself on Mal as often as possible.

Mal rolled off Jayne so that they were now lying diagonally on the bed and pulled Jayne on top of him. They were locked in a heated battle of tongues when there was the unmistakable sound of someone knocking on the hatch door.

“What?!” Mal screamed as Jayne sat up and started pulling his pants up.

“Mal? Are you in there?”

Now extremely pissed off, Mal stood up pulled his pants up, although he left his suspenders down as he was in the mood to make their intruder feel as uncomfortable as possible. He added to this by stopping Jayne from buckling his belt and pulled his t-shirt over his head and off. Jayne clearly wasn’t impressed with the plan but went along with it anyway.

“C’mon in, doors open,” he called up.

“Mal, I wanted to apolo…” Inara started as she descended the ladder but froze when she seen the dress state of both Mal and Jayne, not to mention their flushed faces and the distinct smell of semen in the air, “… am I interrupting?”

“In a way,” Mal told her as Jayne began to put his shirt back on.

“Sorry, I didn’t realise. I can come back later.”

“No, that’s ok. You’re hear now, might as well spit it out.”

“Oh, well I just wanted to apologise for the things I said yesterday,” Mal gave her an expressionless look as if he had no idea what she was talking about, “The things I said about you and Jayne.”

“Oh those things,” Mal sat down beside Jayne on the bed and Jayne just raised at eyebrow at him. He really wasn’t enjoying being put in the middle of one of their fights.

“Yes well, it was extremely uncalled for and the more I think about it, the more I am happy for you. For you both,” she elaborated.

“You done?” she nodded, “Okay, well apology excepted then.”

“Alright, well I’ll see you two later then,” Inara told them as she quickly ran up the ladder and slammed the hatch shut. As soon as it was closed Mal burst out laughing, but noticing the frown on Jayne’s face he stopped.

“I say somethin wrong?” he asked Jayne.

“What you go and have to use me like that for?” Jayne asked him.

“Use you?” Mal was confused, what was Jayne talking about?

“Yeah, use me like some wan ju in whatever fucked up game it is you got goin with Inara.”

“Jayne, I ain’t never used you. And you certainly ain’t no toy.”

“Well what the hell was that about?!” Jayne shouted as he stood and pointed at the ladder.

“I just wanted her to know she was interruptin is all.”

“She would have known that anyway. There weren’t no call for it Mal.”

Mal was shocked. What the hell was goin on? He stood there not knowin what to say as Jayne climbed up the ladder and out of the bunk. Realising that Jayne was leaving in a huff he snapped out of his stupor and went after him. He ran into the galley where Jayne was leaving through the other door. Unfortunately though, most of the crew was still there cleaning up or just talking. He managed to catch Jayne just outside the other entrance.

Grabbing onto his arm, he stopped him as he was trying to stalk away.

“Look Jayne, I’m sorry. I would never deliberately make you feel like that.”

Jayne pulled his arm away, “Yeah well, doesn’t change the fact that you still did. No wonder she thinks all that stuff about me if you’re gonna treat me like that.”

“I’m sorry, please you gotta believe me. And I certainly don’t think that kinda stuff about you. I mean, if either of us is gonna be called dumb it should be me.”

“I’m goin to workout,” Jayne said as he turned and walked away from Mal.

Walking back into the galley Mal was stopped by a curios lookin crew.

“What the hell was that all about?” Wash asked. He had just been on his way to the bridge when Jayne came storming past him.

“Ain’t you supposed to be flyin my ship?!” Mal asked bitingly.

“Just on my way Cap’n.”

“And the rest of ya’ll, aint ya got work that needs doin?”

Everyone quickly scrambled out of the galley so as not to bare the wrath of the Cap’n. That is everyone except Zoe. Upon noticing her defiant stance, Mal just rolled his eyes and stalked past and back into his bunk, where he stayed curled up on the bed hugging Jayne’s pillow and trying to figure out what to do until dinner time.

~*~*~*~*~*~

As Mal climbed up his hatch to head to dinner, he couldn’t help but overhear the argument that was going on in the galley between Jayne and Simon.

“Will you get the ruttin hell away from me!”

“Jayne, I need to check to see if you’ve torn any ligaments,” Simon said as if he was talking to a child.

“I’ve torn ligaments before, so trust me alright, I ain’t torn none this time. It’s just a sprain.”

“Jayne, if you leave shoulder injuries untreated…”

Mal climbed back down into the bunk and grabbed the salve he had been using on Jayne and then headed back towards the galley.

Once there he saw that most of the crew was sitting at the table watching on curiously as Simon had somehow managed to get Jayne cornered against the pantry door. Jayne was cradling his arm somewhat but was trying his best to remain calm at the same time so that he wouldn’t lash out at the Doc. Mal didn’t even pretend he didn’t know what was going on. He simply went over pushed Simon out of the way and dragged Jayne over to sit on his seat at the head of the table.

Jayne was too surprised at Mal’s actions and too thankful to get away from Simon to argue. He let Mal remove his shirt for him, even though the rest of the crew were watching like they were some kind of freak show.

Mal gently began to feel the muscle to see if Jayne had in fact torn anything. Once again everything seemed fine if a little tense. He took the salve out of his pocket, opened it and took a large amount out of the jar and started massaging it into Jayne’s shoulder as Jayne held the open jar for him.

“I thought this had healed?” He asked Jayne as he massaged.

“It had, well mostly anyways,” Jayne replied, now very calm at Mal’s somewhat healing touch.

“Why didn’t you say nothin? I would have put some more of this on for you.”

“I didn’t want you wasting it all on me.”

“Jayne, I got a whole batch of this stuff in my bunk. And beside it wouldn’t be a waste,” Jayne never said anythin, “You strain it workin out again?”

“Yeah. I don’t really feel the pain when I’m angry. Ain’t till later that it hits me.”

Mal frowned. They would maybe need to find a safer activity for Jayne to do when he was angry… and he could think of a fairly obvious one.

“Just what exactly is that you’re applying?” Simon asked as he sniffed the lid of the jar.

It was then that Mal really noticed the rest of the crew. Each of them was sitting transfixed to the sight before them, but had a slightly amused look about their face… especially Wash and Zoe. Trying to ignore the funny looks he was getting Mal decided to answer the Doc’s fairly reasonable question.

“It’s an old family recipe. Helps to soothe muscle ache and the like.”

“Oh, well I’ve never smelled anything like this before, what’s in it?” he asked as he once again sniffed the lid as if it would give him all the answers he needed.

“It’s a secret. But most of it’s illegal now, so that would explain why you aint never smelled anythin like it before.”

Simon didn’t reply and seemed happy enough to let Mal continue with his treatment of Jayne. As Mal was just finishing Jayne spoke again;

“Who the hell goes around sniffin their medical supplies anyway?”

~*~*~*~*~*~

Mal was sitting on the bridge bored out of his mind. It was about ten thirty and the rest of the crew had just gone to bed. That is all except Jayne, who had quietly came in and placed a mug of coffee next to Mal.

“I didn’t scare ya?” Jayne asked, a little disappointed in himself.

“No, I could see your reflection in the window,” Mal smiled at him, “Plus I could smell you.”

Jayne lifted his arm to sniff himself thinking that Mal meant he smelled bad.

“I meant I could smell the salve.”

“Oh right.”

Jayne sat down in the co pilot’s chair. He was quiet for a few minutes as if he contemplating something before he finally spoke.

“Jayne ain’t my real name.”

“What?” Mal turned to him quickly, nearly spilling his coffee.

“Well, I mean it is. It’s my middle name. It just ain’t my first name.”

“Well what is?”

“Steven. I’m Steven Jayne Cobb.”

Mal didn’t say anything. He didn’t know what to say, but Jayne felt like he should explain.

“When I was little, everyone used to call me Stevie. Apparently my Ma hated that name so she insisted that everyone call me Jayne… as if that was better.”

Mal snorted at that and Jayne smiled with him before carrying on.

“Anyways, I was called Jayne by everybody until I applied for my first job. I had to put my full name on the application so when I started workin they all called me Steven. It was kinda weird at first but I got used to it.”

“Why did you go back to getting called Jayne then?”

Jayne paused as if he was once again, contemplating what to say.

“First man I ever loved used to work with me there. He called me Steven. Guess it’s too much of a reminder.”

“What happened to him?” Jayne just stared at him, “I mean, why’s it hurt so much to be reminded of him?”

“Our planet was one of the first to surrender to the Alliance. Not long after, they made it law that every man between the age of fifteen and thirty five had to sign up to fight. I was against unification and said that we should run. But he supported it and gladly signed up. Same day he got shipped out, I got my first job on a smuggling ship. We stopped talkin but my Ma told me a few years back that he had written to his Momma and told her he was goin to Hera… to Serenity Valley. Nobodies heard from him since.”

“Tian a. I’m sorry Jayne, I had no idea.”

“Don’t be. Weren’t your fault he went and got himself killed.”

Jayne stood up as if he was about to go, but Mal stopped him before he could reach the door.

“What was his name?”

“Andrew.”

Once again Mal didn’t know what to say so instead he just leant up to kiss Jayne softly. Jayne held him close for a few moments. He never liked to talk about Andrew and he needed to be reminded of what was in the now. He deeply inhaled Mal’s hair before kissing him on the head.

“I’m gonna go get some shut eye. Been up since … well since real early anyways.” Jayne let Mal go and once again went to head out of the bridge.

“You know, I really didn’t mean to upset you earlier and I would never intentionally hurt you… ever!” Mal blurted out as he held onto Jayne’s hand.

Jayne squeezed Mal’s hand as if to reassure the other man, “I know Mal, I know,” he told him as he kissed Mal goodnight and left him to finish his shift.
