Overall impression: A Veronica/Logan vid that touches on many of the major moments in their relationship in Season 3. While there were moments that did speak to my shipper heart, the coloring and effects on the vid were kind of distracting. And I do think it shows that the vidder doesn't actually watch the show, as they mention in their YouTube info--mostly in that it's a sweet look at some of their moments, but doesn't seem to add much depth to them.
Titles: None that I saw. Since it's only hosted on YouTube I suppose all the info is available there.
Music choice: The music choice worked just fine for a Logan POV. It sort of combined his emo moments with the moving on he did eventually.
Narration, Tone and Movement: The narrative seemed pretty straightforward. Shots of them breaking up or alone contrasted with remembering the good moments when they were together. I had no trouble following along. The retelling of their interactions probably could have been a bit tighter with a little more focus on it being Logan's POV. However, one of the high points of the vid for me was the bookending of Logan's POV between Veronica hearing his song dedication on the radio at the beginning and then turning the radio off at the end.
The tone of the clips seemed to work fine as well. It sort of lacked any strong emotional pull for me in large parts, but the clip choice was never distracting, and the movement within them seemed to keep the vid moving adequately.
Cuts, Transitions, Effects & Colouring/Coloring: The coloring and scale/overlay effects did distract me. They made it very hard to see what was going on in a lot of the clips, which might have contributed to making it harder for me to connect emotionally. I also had a difficult time deciding why they chose the effects they did, other than to add a different look and a little extra sparkle. And don't get me wrong, I like sparkle, but when someone's head is two different colors and they look really sad, I have to stifle my desire to giggle--which probably isn't what the vidder was going for. But I imagine there are other viewers that can sit back and enjoy the fresh look it gives to the source. It actually took me four viewings to catch on that the melancholy present was one color and the good past was another color, and that the framing device was a third color. I think the darkness of the clips may be what tripped me up there.
The cutting didn't seem particularly deliberate, but that could have been because the song has a fairly low key tone that doesn't do much to play up rhythmic cuts. It also may have been an issue of the intent being mostly in just showing their overall surface story rather than pulling out something specfic from it.
Specific vid & music notes: Opening and ending - As I said, I really liked the framing device of the radio and voice over.
- 1:06 - The coloring here is very pretty--I found the nostalgic past coloring to be much easier on my eyes than the 3-color gradient used for the present. It's also a really sweet moment.
- 3:01 - The flash of white works with the music really well, but it sort of set me up for something important to come next, and I'm not sure what that was.
- 3:56 - Again, very sweet montage of past happiness. (With bonus Veronica hip at the end! See, I like sparkle. ;D)
Final notes: This seems to be a very basic shipper vid. If you're heavily into the Veronica/Logan ship, it's very sweet and the coloring does make it stand out. If you've watched a lot of V/L vids already, this one might not show you anything new. I do think if the coloring hadn't made the clips extra dark, more of the emotion in their faces and actions might have come out.
