If you don't keep it as an active community I think it would be really good if it could stay open as an archive.

I'm still learning myself, but if you need a volunteer - I would be glad to help and try to help with reviews. Hope it stays open. It has helped me a lot.

I have no viable solutions for you. I really LOVED the comm as is, but I understand with the participation sinking as it has been. It's a comm that requires time and investment, particularly of reviewers. And a certain kind of courage and openness on the part of those who get reviewed. Being reviewed here is not necessarily something even experienced vidders would jump to do, because sometimes concrit can be really daunting, especially in public.

I personally loved writing reviews and reccs because it gave me a chance to pick apart vids and study them in detail and think about them in detail. It was selfish really (:D), but it taught me about vidding in many ways and I got to watch some vids I might not otherwise have, and, to appreciate them.

As archive, it's an invaluable tool. I am not sure what challenges would look like per se, except the word challenge makes me nervous. Isn't the reel as a review site daunting enough? I wonder. But maybe I'm extrapoliating too much out of it.

You might be reading a little too much into the word "challenge", it is only there because Review-Fest and Review-athon looked funny. :P To a point the word "challenge" applies, since many people find it really hard to write a review (myself included) and they have to set it up as something to conquer.

The vid_commentary challenge would allow you to pick apart vids in a different way if you would like to join us.
