So I didn't get my fur Howard!coat in time for halloween. (And now I will have a faux fox fur coat for no good reason. Maybe it will be awesome enough to wear during our winter months day.) Instead I was shopkeeper!Howard. I found a jazzy shirt, a fantastic pair of dark brown cords which I will wear as often as possible, slipped on my brown Frye chelsea boots, and handed out elbow patches. It was fun and, really, just as well since it was warm and muggy that night, not an evening for fur coats.
The captain's Vince costume was too roomy and she was terribly disappointed. It was also unfinished. We were two hours late because she was still working on it. Midday Saturday her machine broke so we borrowed my mom's, only to find that all that trouble and seam-puckering and nonsense, was actually caused by her machine, as my mom's machine handled the material beautifully. So much frustration could have been avoided! She thinks she must have screwed up something two years ago while sewing her
Ohgr costume, which was all heavy canvas and webbing and such.
Goku was fucking perfect. Well, very nearly. He looked completely awesome in the suit. Only the hair was wonky and he decided against it, which was fine with me. His favorite part of the costume? The bit he didn't want to take off? (And the easiest bit to make!) The wrist bands! :) Kids.
All that costuming didn't leave much time for movies until yesterday. It was nice to kick back and bask in belated horror.
Re-Animator. So silly! And actually sort of boring for the first 40 minutes or so. Then the gore and ridiculousness kicked in and it was pretty fun. And I think I've already decided on my costume for next year. :D
Let's Scare Jessica to Death. I loved this. There were some geniunely creepy moments, and some impressive acting. The music was simple and effective and of course, water!, which always scares me. There were moments when they clearly doubted the intelligence of their audience, such as when a character played an upright bass and synth sounds came out. That could have been excused as atmosphere but the "mole" which was clearly a mouse... not so much. Other than that, a great flick.
A couple of pics to come, I think.
Oh, and thanks to those of you who stopped by my
Virtual Halloween Party! Good times! I still owe a couple of treats, which will come soon.
