I am supposed to be packing, so of course I am here. Who needs pyjamas? I have pictures:
We were staying in a teeny-tiny flat in Waterhead, on the edge of Lake Windermere. The flat was part of this building, round the other side:
and when we arrived this was the view we were greeted with:
The rest of the family turned up in the garden later on:
Rydal Water:
Where there is a cave with a goldfish pool:
The gardens at Rydal Hall:
We walked up Helvellyn the easy way, which is more than can be said for the sheep:
The view from the summit was beyond the powers of my little camera, so you will have to imagine it more striking and spectacular:
Thirlmere on the way down:
And more sheep, just because:
Did these two go on a night out together?
Above Lake Windermere. It stayed light long into the evening:
I have a thing about birds of prey, so had to visit Bassenthwaite Lake where there are ospreys nesting.
The trek up to the viewpoint would have been worth it just for this:
I'd no idea what the chance of actually seeing the ospreys would be (there are only two pairs nesting in all of England), so when we found the RSPB viewpoint set up with telescopes directly onto the nest I was overcome with joy. There were two osprey chicks on the nest, who between snacking were taking advanced flying lessons.
Look! It's an osprey flying. No really. You may have to take my word for it. :)
Castlerigg stone circle:
Derwentwater:
Loughrigg Tarn:
River nearby:
Just below where we were staying were cows living on a Roman fort. I have no decent photos due to being backed up against the gate every time I was in proximity (I am rubbish at cows), but just beyond the cows was Lake Windermere:
Anyway, I must run! I'll be back in a few days.
