It was my LJ's birthday today. It's seven. Seven! And for those of you I have known all that time, it has been a joy.
I am pleased to report that the chard is looking happier, but I fear the cosmos is dying. Not the cosmos, as such. ;)
I've not seen this weekend's Doctor Who yet, which is probably just as well, because I still have Ashes

Unfortunately, I missed the last episode, and living on the Continent means no iPlayer for me...but I feel I've caught up sufficiently on it through your post that I won't go 'huh?' next week; so thanks for that.

Oh, I'm sorry you missed the episode. My version of events is very one-note. :) There was actually plot as well, and everything!

Loads of wonderful points about "Ashes to Ashes". I've really been enjoying this season and though I wouldn't say I'm a Gene/Alex shipper I'm finding their relationship absolutely fascinating.
looking very Wizard of Oz, what with the farmhouse and the scarecrow and Alex in the ruby slippers again, and Chris has already told us he's a lion (a dead one - "better than a live rat" - interestingly enough)
Oh, I hadn't thought of that parallel. How interesting. I think a broken heart is probably inevitable but I'm prepared to deal with that in order to get a good series ending :)

I've enjoyed their dynamic immensely, and never particularly needed it to move forwards in a shippy direction - I don't know where there'd go once they got there. But between the show ending, and Friday's ridiculously fanfic-esque developments, I am finding myself drawn irresistably down that route. :)

It's something I saw mentioned in the Radio Times preview at the start of the season, mostly in relation to Alex wanting to get home. It's one of those things that the more you think about it, the more references you see, but I don't think it's the whole story by any means.

I've loved Alex from day one, loved her off-the-wall rampage through a world she didn't believe in, loved watching her come not just to accept it, but to own it. Completely agree :-)

I've always liked the idea of Alex/Gene, but it wasn't until it neared the end that I realised just how much I actually wanted to see it
Yes! That sums up how I feel exactly.
