I agree so much on Hounds of the Baskervilles. I was always more of an Agatha Christie girl, but I did finally get around to reading Hounds of the Baskervilles since it's pretty much billed as the definitive detective novel. I gotta say, I thought every single one of Agatha Christie's novels were better. Better plotted, better paced, more engrossing, better resolutions.
I'm not too worried about the TV version sucking because I don't appreciate the underlying story (since I don't really enjoy any of the Sherlock Holmes mysteries, but greatly enjoy the show), I'm more worried about who's directing it. Last season had three episodes, just like this season, and the first and last were amazing - and directed by the same person - while the middle episode was middling at best.
And hi there! Good to see you around these parts again. *g*
I'll confess that all my previous Agatha Christie and Hound of the Baskervilles experience has been from TV adaptations rather than the books themselves, so I'm possibly not qualified to judge! Hee. I'm now trying to imagine an equivalent, 21st century take on Poirot and I just - no. :)
I am never in it for the plot, where my TV shows are concerned, so things like direction do indeed make all the difference.
what is this! you can't just post! you need to give a heads-up and work up to it in small increments complete with a health warning, because la la la pleasantly lazy Sunday evening scrolling, cue your username popping up out of nowhere and my SCREAMING TO WAKE THE DEAD. My ears are ringing.
This is extra disorienting because I watched Fool for Love on a whim like two hours ago and thought of you and here you are. What does this mean? Nothing because it just occurred to me you definitely posted this before then. Whatever, logic. It summoned you here. This is the best day ever. Um, I am even more behind the times and haven't seen any Sherlock, but I loved reading your description and am glad it drove you to hyphens! "Quiet bedrock of man-love" needs to be a Netflix category.
You kid but that is the completely serious theory I am choosing to believe. Nothing else explains getting to the porch scene and thinking of a series of frames but not knowing why and getting hit with a wave of oh oh oh I know this one, ANNA'S DEFAULT ICON!!!! Enter you, stage right. Like magic.
I'm doing pretty well! My job keeps me busy and I need to remember how to have a social life (talking to librarians does not count, self), but things are much better than they were at the same time last year. And same to you, I'm so happy to see you!! How are you?
