Ten years ago I posted my
first LJ entry, on an evening not unlike this one. Little did I know then that LJ would be the gateway to all sorts of exciting things: new friends; new fandoms; an ever-reliable source for recommendations and reviews (books, TV, music, food) and wonderful snippets of lives lived all over the world. I'm always intrigued by any love story involving a tough, self-sufficient heroine. What kind of person can be her other half? When the answer is a little bit unexpected, I enjoy it all the more.

I even got to the point where I found that my grandmother was a Vampire Slayer (except for actual vampires as far as I know). But then, many girls were, I guess, in her youth.
but I do love Katniss, too! and I too read the whole thing in three days after the movie came out and before I watched it. I can't say I shipped her, precisely, but I am very satisfied by her and Peeta relationship. And the fact that they knew how broken they were as no one else could.

Even without actual vampires, and as one of many, that makes for a more exciting résumé than most!
When films are based on books, I always feel duty-bound to read the books beforehand. Although often I am only dimly aware of the film and it's an added treat once I've read the book(s) - or not, depending on the film!
And the fact that they knew how broken they were as no one else could.
Yes, this! I do love characters who go through things together that no-one else ever quite gets.

I was really just on Team Katniss, but the bread thing does make me like Peeta. ;)

So lovely to see you!

Totally with you on Katniss/Peeta, even though I don't think the books explored the relationship as fully as I would have liked before reaching that ending. I'm not a big fan of epilogues, I'd much rather things were left to the imagination (which is why, for instance, the open-ended Angel ending worked much better for me than the finality of Chosen. Don't even get me started on the Harry Potter epilogue because I could rant all day. ;-)

Hee. Sometimes I need an epilogue - as long as it chimes in with what happens in my head. ;) But there can be a sense of an author going, "They're my characters! Don't you dare imagine anything else because look - this is what they did forever after!".
The Angel ending was so brave and brilliant - fittingly so. It's the difference, I think, between leaving ends all over the place because you don't know what to do with them, and handing your story over to its audience at a point that it makes sense to do so.

So I am grateful to Buffy for leading me to you, and to you for opening a whole new world to me! <3
(Icon in honour of Jessica Hynes new sitcom about Suffragettes (Up the Women) - go find the first episode on iPlayer, it's a gem!)

My TV guide was very sniffy about Up the Women, but I love the cast and the subject, so I shall have to investigate further.
