Great question.

Urban renewal: yes. Trees, playgrounds, litter collection, footpaths. A community garden. If the climate allows, a public outdoor cinema or theatre (and fund a local amateur group to do shows or make films).

Transport: what can you do to make it easy for people to get to and from the area? Light rail? Better (bright, clean, safe-feeling) and more regular buses?

School donations: yes. Plus fund ways for the school to show off and become known (participation in national competitions, for instance).

Upgrade the available broadband, and make it available cheaply, perhaps as community wifi throughout the area.

Fund community groups and classes. Make a space and infrastructure available for volunteers to teach adult education classes (both hobbies and life-skills).
