The minute he sees Valerie standing there, her face turned expectantly towards him, Daniel feels his heart lift. It has been too long since they had more than a few minutes to spend together. She looks as neat as a pin, a beautiful pink dress adding a blush to her cheeks, and he's doubly glad he had a chance to finish work early so he could bathe and change his clothes. Even now, he has to resist the urge to paw at his damp hair to make sure he didn't leave tufts of hay behind.

More than anything, he wants to go through the gate, catch her up in his arms, and kiss her until they're both dizzy, but he doesn't to give any observers reason to gossip. He settles for beaming at her as he stops in front of the gate. "Hello, sweet girl," he greets her.

Valerie's always amazed at how the sight of Daniel just makes her beam, every time. Whatever kind of day she's had, whatever is going on, it all gets better the moment she sees him. Today is already a good day, so she knows now she must be grinning like a complete idiot as he walks up to meet her.

He looks beautiful, and it's obvious he's taken care to get dressed so nicely--almost as if he knew today was extra special. She can't help reaching out over the fence to run a hand over the buttons of his shirt, admiring the way the fabric hugs his lean body. She smiles at him and leans across the gate, puckering up and waiting for him to kiss her.

The way Valerie leans towards him makes him forget about who might be watching them from nearby windows. Daniel cups her face and gently covers her mouth with his, and it's as though sunlight fills him up from the inside, warming him from head to toe. "You look so beautiful," he murmurs when he eases back so he can look at her. This close, he can see the glint of gold at the tips of her eyelashes and among her upswept curls. He strokes his thumb along the crest of her cheek. "How has your day been so far, sweetheart?"

"It's been wonderful," Valerie says dreamily, still buzzing inside from his soft kiss. "But it's even better now..." She tilts her head into his caress, then slowly slips away so she can open the gate.

"Come inside with me. I've something I want to show you." She holds her hand out to him, and she's so excited that she can't help bouncing a little on her toes.

"Certainly," Daniel replies, turing his head to meet her gaze. "You'll need room for Tillie when she comes to stay with you," he adds, pretending to miss her meaning just to tease her.

Valerie bites down on a smile, not wanting to give in just yet. "Oh of course. Tillie." She raises her arms up then, and can feel her dress stretching tightly across her body. "It needs to be a bit longer, too, I think. I occasionally have a certain gentleman over, and he's fairly tall." Her lips twitch at the corner. "With big...feet."

Daniel tries to hold back his laughter, but he can't. "Big feet, eh?" he says, rolling onto his side and draping one leg over hers. "How big, hmm?" He wiggles his fingertips into her side, tickling her just to make her shriek and laugh.

Valerie flings her arms back down, using them to try and block Daniel's attacking fingers. "Ow! Stop! Help!" she babbles, desperately attempting to wiggle out of reach.
