I'm not entirely convinced I want to spend the rest of my working life doing what I do just now. It's not that anything is wrong with it, I'm just wondering if this is it? When I first started being an archivist I used to really enjoy work, at the moment my motivation appears to have vanished.

What else can I be? Any suggestions?

Is it the career, or is it your particular job? This probably really is 'it' for archives, but is 'it' in any other job going to be any more satisfying?

For what it's worth, I have a constant low-level melancholia tinged with moments of truly bitter regret at not going into something sciencey, like medicine or forensic science.

Actually, I think it's more this particular job. There are bits when I enjoy it, but a lot of the time I'm just getting through. Plus I have no idea what I would do instead, it would mean re-training for something and at the moment I cannot be bothered doing any more studying!
