Cat entered the graveyard, looking for a shortcut. Instead she was lost and very much frustrated. After her run in at the Bronze, Cat was starting to remember why she was careful and cautious of others. Her thoughts were brought to a halt when she heard a woman's voice. Cat saw the blonde approaching her area slowly, but the stake in her hand made her eyes narrow. "Slayer.." She whispered. Cat didn't care much about history or authority, but the Slayer was one piece of history she managed to strangle from her Sire before she cut off his head. Stake Her mind called out for the object and she watched as it slipped out of the woman's fingertips and into her own hand. She stepped forward into the moonlight and smiled. "Sorry to interrupt, but I didn't want to risk you tripping and this falling into my chest."
Buffy's boredom disappeared as quickly as her stake. She blinked at her hand, astonished to find it empty. Her gaze whirled to the source of her abrupt disarmament, eyes warily trained on the dark-haired woman highlighted by a stream of moonlight. The effect was absurdly theatrical, but sans stake, Buffy didn't particularly feel like giggling.
"Hey now, that's not playing fair," Buffy said in a chastising tone, stepping closer to the stranger as she casually scanned the ground for a suitable replacement. "I've met vampires with unusual little gifts before and it's just annoying... all swirling capes and penetrating gazes."
Were there no branches anywhere? Buffy thought in irritation at the empty ground, wishing she hadn't wasted her normal backup stake on that stupid fledgling an hour earlier.
Cat chuckled and watched as she kept glancing to the ground. "Well I assure you I have no cape. They get in the way," she smiled, "Please excuse my astonishment. I have yet to encounter a Slayer. You are mere legends to other parts." She leaned against a plain headstone, arms crossed now.
An articulate vampire with a sense of humor? Definitely not an incompetent fledgling then, the night was looking up.
"Really?" Buffy asked, rather pleased. She was so very tired of staking newly made vampires who had never heard of her, of slayers at all. A little recognition was a nice change. If she could just find a damn piece of wood, she could have an even better time. The nonchalance of this new vampire's posture was annoying.
"Is flattery another one of those nifty vampiric skills you've got?"
