Yes, I'm cross-posting this from DevArt, because I'm a wanker.
He's soooo squishable!
I really had a fun time learning on this one, and there's a ton I'll do differently next time. the thing I struggle most with though is the head, believe it or not. I'm not sure whether to make a sphere, and then somehow tack a helmet onto it, or whether to make the face and helmet all in one gig. I'm also crap at attaching the head to the body. I think the problem is my design, really. I'll keep playing around, and keep looking for books or patterns. They're hard to find though. If you want a book on sock puppets, there's a hundred or so out there. But a good book on plush construction? Forget it.
This one was loosely based off of a Simplicity pattern, which I plan to modify even further. The head, cockpit, and wings I did on my own (I'm sure you can tell). I did cockpit backwards just out of trial-and-error, and it ended up rather flat looking. I think I know how to correct for next time, in addition to attaching it more fully to the figure's back. I'll also change the wings a bit.
Don't get me wrong, I love how this turned out. But it was a learning thing, so I knew it would be sort of a clumsy attempt. To my surprise, it didn't turn out as clumsy-looking as I thought it might, so I'm really pleased with it. But I think the next one will be better. :)
And now I'm off to make more photo comics. I have two shot. I just need to put them together in Foto-Chop. *trots*
