"What the hell is this Twitter thing? It sounds annoying." ... But before I went on a reactionary rant, I figured, I ought to know, first, just what it was about. So I went to the website. And what does it say?

For the most part I agree and share your sentiments. But I read an article recently about some libraries that are using it to stay connected with their patrons, and it's working really well. Circulation is up at the libraries that twitter their new acquisitions (patrons see an interesting book on their twitter feed and immediately place a hold). Attendance is up at programs. And so on and so forth.

I thought that TwitterLit and KidderLit would be interesting...but of course I haven't looked at them since I discovered them.

So, while I don't use Twitter personally, and think it's dumb for personal use, I do see some potential in my professional applications.

And yet somehow I am now hooked on the damn thing! But only because it connects me fastest to my two SLU beloveds.
