So haunting, so plausible, so beautiful in its restraint: this just takes my breath away. Thank you for a deeply moving and gorgeous (and, in no small way, heartbreaking) read.

I'm so glad you liked it. You are one of my favourite authors because of your fantastic Lestrade fics. I can't help but see Lestrade as someone who has been dragged down by the weight of the world and by Sherlock the most. I'm glad that despondency came across. Thank you so much for commenting!

This is deliciously dark, complex and amazing. Also, at the risk or repeating what other people have said, beautiful and haunting as well. I really admire the way you've structured the story, making the reader work to figure out what exactly went wrong in the Sherlock/Lestrade working relationship. Then, to twist the knife, you reveal that final scene in which we see Lestrade first agreeing to work with Sherlock. Lestrade's optimism and trust in Sherlock's powers is heart-wrenching given the outcome six years later. BTW, I think it's clever that we never know for sure whether Sherlock lied to Lestrade or was wrong. Either way, it's a terrible thing for Lestrade to contemplate.
