While I've been away...

My probationary period at my workplace is almost over. I can hardly fathom that it's already been almost three months since I began working there, and that it's also been almost that long since I wrote my last entry here. As usual, I've had no shortage of thoughts and experiences since then, but I've been reluctant to write about them here and ( Read more... )

what's your work/school schedule like ATM, or, in other words, when are you free? Have to give you a call sometime! ^^

For the past month I've been working on Friday from 6:00 PM till 2:30 AM, on Saturday from 6:00 PM till at least 2:30 AM (sometimes until 3:00, 4:00, or even 5:00 AM), and on Sunday from 4:00 PM till 12:30 AM. Before that, I would work on the occasional weeknight as well, and could still be called upon to do so. The rest of my time is 'free', but that's when I SHOULD be studying. Regardless, I suppose you can phone me at any time between noon and 11:00 PM from Monday to Thursday. I'd love to hear from you. :)

After I left my house and was on my way to work, I realised that I forgot to specify that all the hours I'd listed were according to my local time (Eastern), so subtract 3 hours from each to translate it into your (Pacific) time. Sorry. :P

Thank you, Steve, and I hope to start weighing in at least once in a while on what you write, for a change. I've been a loyal reader, even if as yet I haven't made that fact apparent. :)

You've probably heard the "lift with your knees" speech already. Now you're learning why };>. Glad to hear you recovered quickly. There are stretches and exercises that can help too, though I doubt that's really your thing (and avoidance works best).

Glad to hear you've settled into your job, and don't mind it. If it's paying the bills and still letting you study and do other things you like, I strongly suggest keeping it for as long as they'll have you. Even after courses end, this would give you the flexibility to do an internship or volunteer work in your chosen field to get work experience while still having another source of income. Your call, of course.

Re. meeting others, I notice you've registered for Feral. Are you still planning to attend?

Oh yes, I've heard the warning from the chief steward, my supervisor, and a co-worker or two. I was surprised that it happened, because I'd lifted much heavier loads without the assistance of my knees many times before without any palpable consequences. I might try these stretches and exercises that you mention, but I wonder if I'll have the time to perform them enough that they'll be effective ( ... )
