Damn, Tekkaman sounds pretty intense for this sort of thing.

Interesting analysis. Sorry I don't have more to say on the topic.

Heh, makes me want to watch Tekkaman Blade now. And makes me interested in seeing the remake Eva movies, I wonder if Hideaki Anno mellowed out, like Tomino, or not ( ... )

I have a very different understanding of the plot of the Protomen. I need to go wiki that, because I thought (1) Proto died in his initial fight, (2) Light then turned his back on humanity, (3) Mega sets out to avenge his brother and rekindle hope among mankind, against Light's wishes, (4) Mankind rejects Mega, (5) Mega decides to fight for a people that won't accept him against a tyranny they refuse to do anything about, (6) some fighting happens? (7) end of album one.

There's a sequel album coming out that's supposed to finish the story, I know that much for certain.

My understanding at the end of the first Protomen album is that Mega kills his brother, and then turns his back on humanity, which is why there's the chant of "we are the dead", but I know that I've seen both interpretations online, I just chose the more depressing one as a point.

As far as the east/west dichotomy:

Ending up alone would be a terrible fate for an individual from an eastern society. Their emphasis on interconnectedness with the group means that to be separated from the group is one of the worst things that can happen to you, so that might explain why heroes don't end up with that sort of fate, though sacrifice is likely to be a common theme.
