Went to the Enterprise Lot today after work and talked to a nice guy named Mark, he wasn't pushy and answered all my questions. I checked out the cars they had in the lot, wasn't much maybe 12-15 cars, he showed me the ones on the net, alot of nice cars just out of my reach, it seems to be a trend for how much i want to spend and what I want the ( Read more... )

Something you have to understand about price negotiations is the way that the salesmen get paid. Since they are 100% commission, they need to balance out the final price of the car with the amount of time it takes to sell it. The Commission they get is not based on the total selling price of the car, but the net profit. That is to say, they receive a percentage of the difference between the car's cost to the dealership and the final selling price. If a person is taking too long or is haggling for a price below a certain threshold, it becomes no longer financially sound for the salesperson to continue. If you get up to leave, and the salesperson doesn't believe you are willing to move your price threshold up to something that's valuable to them, then they'll let you. There's a lot of psychology going on.

Question - How many miles on the Sonata? I ask because if I recall there are certain parts of the Hyundai warranty that are transferable. You'll want to check with the dealer about that.

Be very aware of the cost of insuring the car. In fact, you should probably get the VIN's of the cars you are looking at for quotes. One problem I've seen people run in to is that they get a car for a monthly payment that they can JUST afford, but then their insurance becomes more than they can afford. When I first got my Honda, this happened to me.

Well, speaking of PT Cruisers, I own one, and I absolutely love it. But then, I had wanted one since they were first introduced, and when I moved to CA, and I had the revelation that I was a full-grown adult with a job of my own, and could buy whatever car that I wanted (within a certain price range, obviously), I went straight to Carmax (which I do also recommend) and bought my Glenn. Smooth ride, stylish vintage-look lines, very comfortable, and just the right size for me and Russ and groceries and whatever else we need. I've hauled all kinds of furniture home from Ikea in that car. I adore it ( ... )
