I read in a book of facts the other day that that statistic regarding marriage and divorce, you all know the one, where supposedly half of all marriages end in divorce. Well, it's all bogus. Very interesting. I had no idea about this 'lies to children' thinggy. -_- and now, for my peace of mind because i don't know WHAT i know, HOW are rainbows formed?

Well in school your teacher probably did the old backyard experiment where you spray a hose or hold a glass prism up to the sun to show the light reflecting through the drops/prism as a rainbow. The lie is that they pretty much just leave it at that for an explanation 'rainbows are formed when sunlight shines through raindrops' but this doesn't explain the shape, the angle and how come you don't see a rainbow every time it rains and the sun comes out. It's actually much more complicated, this is what wikis page on rainbows says ( ... )

Hey.
I respectfully disagree. Of course we're told lies in school, but saying that "formal education" gives you nothing is too much. Formal education is supposed to give you the basis you need to become actually intelligent later in life - yes, I agree, it doesn't do its job perfectly, but it's not useless. Not useless at all.
Just imagine what would happen if nobody had to go to school - things would have been worse than they are now! And don't forget that most people don't think (sounds arrogant, but it's pretty much a fact), so those lies don't disturb them, but at least they're taught math and told about Nabokov :)
