Warp Speed Mr Sulu

So saw Star Trek last night.

I give it a 9.95

Lots of good stuff, some not so much.

So... GRRRRRRAAAAARRRR!

Problemos with the film
As evidenced in the episode "Balance of Terror" the Federation does not know of the common ancestry between the Romulans and the Vulcans. Additionally the Federation has not had any visual contact with the Romulans until this point.

Destruction of the planet Vulcan...WHAAATT!!! Whats going to happen when Spock (or any other Vulcan for that matter) go thru the Pon Farr (Vulcan time of mating, similar to when a dog goes into heat, a Vulcan goes into a neurochemical imbalance with an overpopulation of Hormornes and endorphins, that takes on a form of madness which will kill them in 8 days unless they have sex. Lots and Lots of hot sweaty sinful sex) See the episode "Amok Time"

Pike being the first Captain of the 1701 Enterprise, rather it was supposed to be Robert April.

MAJOR TIMELINE ISSUES
2245 is the launch date of the Enterprise, although they do not use the stardate in the film (at least not that I noticed during my first viewing) it does take place 22 years after the USS Kelvin is destroyed during which the young James T. Kirk was born. Originally being born in 2233 if that is the case that means that the film takes place in 2255, making the Enterprise ten years late in its construction. Christopher Pike is to have taken control of the Enterprise in 2251.

But there are always good with the bad, and the good FAR outweighed the bad
Funny elements of the film
A throwback to "Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home" where the future Spock gives Scotty the formula for transporting onto a ship moving at Warp Speed. In The Voyage Home Scotty gives an unknown man working at Plexicorp the formulas for building superstrong materials later used in Starship construction stating "well how do we know he isn't the man who invented it?"

They FINALLY used Uhura's first name, Nyota

The last scene is quite possibly the very best ending in any Star Trek movie or episode (barring TNG All Good Things Must Come to an End)

Yes there was more good, but I need to work on my Finals. GO SEE THE MOVIE
