Am I the only one amused by the fact that if you type in "Cthulhu" in either dictionary.com or the Miriam-Webster page, one of the suggestions that comes up is "Catholic"? XDDDDD
To set the records straight, I've never actually read anything by Lovecraft, only hearsay. ^^; I want to, don't get me wrong-- I like scary stories-- but I think my mom would go into conniptions if she ever caught me reading it. :/ (Not that it matters all that much, but I'm kinda dependent on their housing at the moment, so I'm better off not pissing the 'rents off...)
Oh, I strongly suggest you find some way to read it. Hide the book, read it in the library, read it at school... Lovecraft is an amazing author, and a lot of his work is extremely thought provoking. Calling it "horror" is a bit of misnomer; while his stories often have disturbing elements to them, they usually tend to be more fantastical and mind-bending, almost science-fiction-ish (but generally a lot more sophisticated and forward-thinking than most modern science fiction). I guess he kind of creates his own genre, in a sense; "science horror", almsot like a weird hybrid of Poe and Bradbury.
