Got my test results back over the weekend. They left a message on my answering machine.

HBA1C: 8.4

Eight point fucking four. Under 6.5 is good.

They said my kidneys had 'started to flare up', too. I'm not sure what exactly they meant by 'flare up', except I do know thisI'm going to call and try to get more information. Needless to say, I'm a ( Read more... )

As someone who's had kidney weirdness, I suspect what they mean is that your kidneys aren't processing stuff quite as well as they should. That's the kind of thing that can fluctuate and correct itself depending on other factors. They're resilient. Don't let Shad scare you.

LOL, no, it's just that Shad had to have his kidneys replaced a while back.

They might mean that you have a kidney infection or something of the sort. There's a lot of kidney-type thingies. I had a bad kidney infection when I little - I hope it's not that for you.

*hugs* That sounds awfully scary. I've had a couple instances where doctors have said something scary is happening, but we can deal with it in six months, which makes me even more nervous.

Yeah, putting it off like this is not helpful.

Although, on the bright side, it's not like they're saying, "You need to come in RIGHT NOW." That would be much, much worse.

You have three months to get your blood sugar down. Any progress you make will be good for your kidneys, too.

I feel a little better today. I think I'll be all right.

Health is terrifying when it comes to all the fragile bits inside of you. :/ Well, and at the very least, being on meds for this is probably better than NOT being on meds. It'll help manage and/or clear up whatever's going on in there.

Be safe; I've been thinking about you lately and wish you and yours all the best.

Thank you. It's good to hear you're thinking about me. I think I'll be okay. Some people go for years with this kind of thing unchecked. At least I'm being treated for it.

oh no. i'm sorry to hear about your health problems. seems to be a bit of that going around. luckily, even with my weight, my blood sugar has always been about 4.7-ish. which is good, i think. i can understand your worry but kidneys are pretty resilient. i had kidney problems when i was taking lithium and eventually it all got sorted out. in the mean time... water, water, water! anyway... hope things look up for you soon.

4.7 is is fabulous. My goal is 5.5. I've been cutting carbs and calories and upping my exercise and my blood sugars are looking good now, so I'm hoping that will help. Drinking lots of water is a great idea, which hadn't occurred to me for some stupid reason. XD

Thanks so much for the sympathy. *hugs*

oh boy, your kidneys will thank you for the water. it is also critical to losing weight. i had to start out slow because basically i didn't really like water when i started but now i drink over 2L a day... which is a 1/2 gallon i believe??? (sorry, i'm canadian.) good luck with everything. i'm sure it will just take a little time before everything is levelled out.

Well, I drink a lot of tea. My dietician told me that was fine, but for flushing out my kidneys I expect pure water's better and you're absolutely right. I like icewater, with lots of ice, I just don't like it much plain. XD

My blood sugars are looking good the past few days, to I'm feeling a little more optimistic. Thanks.
