Sometime in February, we wrote a check to the state of Virginia and marked it 'penalties'. Now our accountant is doing our taxes and wants to know if it's really all penalties or if some of it's a late payment with penalties added

Mom and I had a check that was like that. She had me look through EVERYTHING. Including the burn barrel, outside, in the sort of wind that will suffocate you.

Guh. I hate that. When we were doing the house-buying there was some of that--questions of "Did we pay [whatever thing]? I don't know, we wrote a check for something..."
