Rules and Regulations
The OOC Rules:
1. Be Polite - Characters can get nasty, violent, and insulting, but the players should treat each other with respect at all times. You don’t have to like the other players, but you do have to show them basic courtesy. If you have issues with another player and can’t resolve them peacefully, that’s what the mods are for.
2. The Mods Have Final Say - What we say goes, period. We’ll do our best to resolve any plot, character, or player conflicts in a way that’s agreeable to all, but that isn’t always possible. Please recognize this and be willing to work with us to find solutions. Also, please don’t throw a fit if you don’t like our ultimate decisions.
3. Use Proper English, For the Love of God - Everybody has typos from time to time, but for the most part, we expect all of our players to spell decently, use proper grammar, and write in complete sentences. Textspeak, netspeak, chatspeak, or any variation thereof are NOT ACCEPTABLE. The only exception to this rule is when characters actually ARE texting each other (most of them have mobile phones and are seen texting and SMS messaging each other in the show), or if the character uses a particular form of shorthand for their diary.
4. No Godmodding - For the sake of clarity, Godmodding encompasses the following behaviors:
- Controlling another person’s character, or ‘puppeting’. You do NOT get to decide what someone else’s player says/does/thinks/feels/etc. Only the player of that character gets to make those decisions. Therefore, do not dictate the actions of other characters in your posts.
- Declaring a hit. You are allowed to announce that your character attacks another character, but unless you and that character’s player have already agreed upon the outcome, you cannot announce that the attack is SUCCESSFUL.
- Allowing your character to know things that s/he should not know. You, the player, have a lot of information about the game that your character does not. Therefore, your character cannot just magically know things other characters have been busting their asses to keep secret.
5. Mary Sues / Gary Stus - We reserve to right to say when a character has gotten out of hand - after all, there are Sues, and there are FLAMING Sues. Apping a Sue will not be an automatic denial, but we may ask you to tweak certain aspects of their character to fit the existing cast.
6. The Aftermath is Yaoi, Yuri, Het, and even Cest-friendly. If that disturbs you, please move along, because there is nothing here you want to see. The canonical histories of character relationships exist, but once play starts, they can go any which way.
The In-Game Rules:
1. Posts - These are the guidelines for posting:
- All log posts go in the main community. Log posts must be third-person and past tense. Each log post should have the following heading:
Who: (the characters participating. If the log is open for other characters to join, put “OPEN”)
When: (what day and time the log takes place. We may fall a bit behind real time, so this helps keep things clear)
Where: (the location where the log takes place)
Warnings: (Sex? Violence? Bad Language? Torture? Say so here)
- All posts that contain explicit adult content must be screened as such and f-locked. It’s for the children.
- Diary Entries go in the character’s journal. Diary entries can follow any format the character would like to use for their personal diary.
- Text messages to other characters should be placed in the journal of the character SENDING the text. These should ideally be marked with a header, such as, “TXT/SMS MESSAGE: TO ROSE, FROM ALBUS”.
- Technically we do not have a word limit at The Aftermath. However, we recommend, for the sake of everyone’s experience, that each post and comment be at least two paragraphs. They don’t have to be large paragraphs, but try to provide your fellow players with something to work with.
2. Play-Bys - If you are playing a canon character, we ask that you use the actor who plays that character as your PB. If you are having trouble finding icons for them, requests can be put in at
Hollow Art. Feel free to plug us while you’re over there. ;-) If you have an Original Character, you can use any unclaimed PB as long as they are a real person. No anime or cartoon characters, please.
3. Character Limit - For the time being, we are setting a character limit of three characters. This restriction may be lifted later.
4. Activity - The Aftermath doesn’t have an activity requirement YET, but be informed that the game tends to move fast. Most of our players so far are very active. At least one post a day, when not on hiatus, should be the minimum, and more is definitely preferred. Keep this in mind when considering apping multiple characters. We do ask that the character's personal journals be updated at least every two weeks with a diary entry (however brief), a video, pictures, anything that relates to their personal life.
