Joshua asked me to design the cover art for his band (The Foodstamps)'s album "Go Shopping." He told me what they had in mind---"japanese fish in a grocery bag with guns, and, uh, maybe a baguette or something"---and he's pretty happy with the end result:

Where did he get the idea from Japanese fish from?

I have no idea where he got the idea for japanese fish, but I DO know that he has no idea what japanese fish are and that despite telling me he wanted them, they weren't what he pictured.

Our conversation when the drawing was still in pencil before I inked it:
Him: "Are those the fish?"
Me: "Yes. Japanese fish, just like you asked"
Him: "Oh. I was thinking of the fish that are on, like, kimonos."
Me: "yeah, that's what these are---Koi."
Him: "Oh"
At that point I decided I was just going to ink what I had and if he didn't like it, then he could draw his own grocery bag o'fish-and-guns. But once inked and scanned with the text added, he loved the picture. Good thing, I was about an inch from slapping him :D
