I agree that it is rather absurd that over a 100 yrs ago this technology was out, and now, electric vehicles are only marginally better (better only because they're enclosed, probably have shorter charge time due to better battery technology, and I imagine the recent ones have heating and cooling and are computer controlled to some degree, as most cars are these days.) Although, its marginal improvement hardly in the areas of driving speed and range.
