This past weekend, I gave my first poetry reading in a year. When the 1st years were signing up for the reading about a month ago, I signed up for the first poetry slot on the first night. Damn, I'm glad I did that. I was able to get it all out of the way. I hadn't anticipated how nervous I would be. I put off selecting poems for the reading ( Read more... )

It's good that you are reading. The woman I am dating has an MFA (poerty) and when she talks about writing it's either complaining that she can't find time to write, when she finds the time she can't write, when she does write it's no good and when she's asked to do a reading she's so nervous.

It seems ironic to me. I have no problem writing (although I also think my work stinks) I certinly have time to do it and I love getting up in front of people, yet I am not driven to write, do not consider myself a writer or a poet (because I'm not)
