iirc, cannas are a type of lilly. in the middle ages, water lillies were a symbol of death. (in the middle ages, there were all kinds of 'codes' and 'symbolic imagery' going on - you could hold entire conversations across a crowded room just by what you did with your hankerchiefs, fans, what flowers you chose, etc...)

anyway, i'm evidently a daffodil. since i'm cultivating my absent-minded professor look, this works.
