Pineapples are amazing

So I don't remember quite what it was, but I got it into my head the other day that it would be cool to grow my own pineapples. I don't know a damn thing about how to grow pineapples, but I figure So Cal is a warm enough climate that I can probably make due. If you ever get to South Africa, head to the small town of Port Alfred, and thence slightly inland to the largest pineapple in the world, which also houses a museum to pineapple-dom. It's on an experimental pineapple farm.

They have managed to slightly extend the cycle, but they also have excellent weather for growing.

More amazing is the great variety of pineapples, and how their taste differs.
