I've been working on some too. I don't think I'll have them done real soon or anything, especially since I am finishing my Final Paper for History class tonight.
I like your Swish featured deviation. You must have used Photoshop's sparkle paint daubs filter a couple times, then maybe a glowing edges filter. I have done some pieces that look extremely similar! I will post it for ya sometime, and you will see why I almost shit myself with how similar the styles are. I guess great minds think alike, right? :)
I've been using Photoshop and Imageready to animate. I'm pretty good with Photoshop because I have used it for so long, but I am just starting to get a feel for Imageready.
Use the gimp to open a gif file, scale it to 100 pixels, hit ctrl L to open a layers dialog. Make changes to your picture in the layers that you want the animation to loop these layers. Or cut and paste other pictures into these layers to animate them. When you save the gif file, click the button to save it as an animation in the dialog box. Make sure you save it as a .gif and the second dialog box will ask you how much time to delay between frames, which you can adjust before you click save. I hope this helps.
Did you ever figure this out? I can help you with the basics if you want. I had to learn it from scratch, and it really isn't that hard once you experiment with them a little. It's actually kinda fun. Let me know man:)
