This makes me so sad and angry at the same time! What I like best is how you write Sam's parents as being caught in the middle. They like Mercedes and are probably just as horrified at the old man's actions as Sam, but they have a duty to keep their family healthy and fed and together. What do you do when you *have* to accept help with disgusting conditions like that? This is pretty deep stuff, and I'm looking forward to reading more.

Thank you so much! I'm glad it came across as intended. I totally worked myself up thinking about what *I* would do if I were stuck in Sam's parents' position and honestly, you do whatever you have to do to keep your kids safe, fed and healthy. It's bad all around so I'm glad I did a good job not portraying them as TERRIBLE and WRONG, even though Sam is frustrated.

Ugh, the situation just sucks so much and is so painful for all involved. Like, as much as I feel for Sam and Mercedes, and get where Sam is coming from about the dignity, you can't really blame Sam's mother either. There just really isn't any happy outcome that I can see =/ As sad as it is to see Sam so torn, it's also nice to see he cares so much. Can't wait for the next chapter!

No, you can't, which makes the situation twice as painful. There are certain situations that just can't end well and I can see Sam's family as never wanting their children in that position again, at all costs.

Yay, Kurt's reaction! I really wanted to see that. No one messes with his diva. Horrible situation. His parents had to know he was a flaming racist. I'm surprised they were even still on speaking terms. I know ppl who have disowned their family for less. So happy to see Finn and Kurt helping Sam out, and I loved Kurt's phone conversation with Mercedes at the end. Poor Sam.
