Thanks so much for sharing! I really enjoyed watching Paul Cornell speak and thought he came off as enthusiastic and charming. Even though I'm not interested in medieval settings much, Cornell made me curious about Demon Knights.
Cornell: "I think what you want from . . . you want people who are not in superhero costumes doing extraordinarily violent things in a werid science-fictional atmosphere where everything's based in SF and that's kind of what we got." This makes me optimistic.
I don't really agree with Cornell about Midnighter and Apollo having been treated like 'shock value gay people' by past authors, especially considering that Mid and Apollo haven't kissed that often on panel. If anything, I'd say authors tended to write about how awesome Midnighter is and kick Apollo and their relationship to the sidelines.
However, Cornell speaking about getting to watch Mid and Apollo fall in love . . . Damnit, I think I need to buy this book now. I'm sold.

I have to disagree with this, it think that is exactly how Wildstorm treated their relationship. And yes, it did get downplayed a lot, but when they /were/ talking about it i got this very impression.
I should have noted that I was specifically thinking of Giffen's, Ennis', and Grant Morrison's runs when I wrote that. Ellis, Abnett/Lanning, and Brubaker I always thought did pretty well on the Apollo/Midnighter front.
And yes, it did get downplayed a lot, but when they /were/ talking about it i got this very impression.
Are we talking in-universe or during interviews? If it's the latter, I'm more inclined to agree with you.
I've never thought of Apollo and Midnighter being treated like shock value gay characters by other characters in the Wildstorm universe.
Out of universe, I know that some interviews could be very, "Look, we have gay characters!" and treat Apollo/Midnighter as The Gay Couple and little more.
If I'm on the completely wrong track, please correct me.
Thank you for posting this, i too am cautiously optimistic. And i have to say that I'm really excited about seeing their relationship develop. I always felt that they were not nearly as well developed as they could be. Some of the writers did very well with them, others really did just use them for shock value. They (and we) deserve better than that. I"m glad that he seems to get that.
