Oooooooooh yeeeaaah.

S'been entirely too long since I've rattled off a good visceral rant. Felt good. Felt right. Gave me that nice tingly feeling deep in that snarky organ that I have tucked away somewhere inside of me. Muhahahahaha.

There is a part of me that agrees with this, and then the part of me that thinks that if people hadn't gotten on the whole manga bandwagon, they might have never discovered their potential, just as long as they challenge themselves to evolve past this phase.

That and Copic markers and liners are really good.

I will sit here and I will fully support the idea of someone imitating a style for a short time for the purposes of learning and getting jumpstarted. Everyone has to start somewhere. There's no question about it and the manga style is easy enough to act as a starting ground.

That still doesn't make it make any sense to take a normal art supply, slap "manga" on it, and amp its price up. Or suggest that its a manga tool. That's bullshit wrap in a balderdash taco.

Oh no, I fully agree with that. It's a marketing gimmick to sell to easily-influenced otaku children. I did, just out of curiosity, pick up a set of "manga" liners on sale to see if they were any good, and no, they were crap. I'll stick to my Microns and Copics.

Yeah. I was browsing my local stand in for an actual art supply store last week when I happened upon a "how to draw manga" kit. Complete with bottom of the barrel quality pencils, pens that were already leaking through the cardboard, and an insult of a "how to" book that basically told one to draw a female character, by putting a round head onto a rectangle torso and then adding a skirt. Oh no! We can't go telling people to draw even the most remote hint of the shape of the female pelvic region!
