hello fellow The Basic Eight fans,

i'm currently reading The Secret History by Donna Tartt, and i'm seeing a lot of similarities between this book and TBI (notwithstanding that both are great books).

has anyone else read both and thought the same?

Goodness! I forgot this community even existed!!

The Secret History is certainly among my favourites, and IS very similar in content to The Basic 8! Had the urge to reread it a few weeks ago, but I dumped it in London to increase suitcase space! Regretting it now! Took home a really bad book instead.

The Secret History is also one of my favourites (up there with TB8, of course!). I do agree there are some similarities, I find mostly with the elite-group-of-friends + school setting + teacher-comrade + murder + illegal-substance-intake combination. I think it's a winner.

Somewhat similarly, I find Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl and the Night Climbers by Ivo Stourton to have some of the same ingrediants, but to much less success than TB8 or the Secret History.
