i definitely get your point about helping the less fortunate kiddies, but even the majority of peers i know can't afford gear let alone a comp and interface to run reaktor at their house.

although the olpc has a crazy modular synth engine so there will be some awesome jams coming out of africa in a couple years.

that and i don't want a hood rat robbing my house and knowing what they are taking. 'this is that dbx compressor i was telling you about, put it in the sack!'

as far as i can tell, mike huckaby's reaktor clinic in detroit is sponsored by NI, which would help costs in a big way. donated computers + grants would go towards building a lab setup. i get your point re: practicality, but i think that would work itself out with expanded hours of availability (keeping a center like this open on the weekends) and simply having enough workstations.

is that true about the olpc? fucking wild. i'd like to get my hands on one.

re: your last point, i lol'd.

--- in sum, though, it appears a place like this exists already, and not only is it fairly close to where i live, the scope of their operation is broader than just music. i think i've seen the spot before, and i'd like to go in sometime and check it out.
