Lunch Breaks |

the sharp spring sun blinds him momentarily when he steps out onto the pavement. the lunch rush hour ended some time ago and he's grateful he doesn't have to deal with stressed businessmen trying to eat, walk and work at the same time. it makes him surprised that they don't find more people choked to death in the streets.
the streets are mostly empty save for the random old woman or man strolling leisurely in slow-motion as only old people can. he's on his way out too early, but spring has finally arrived and he's going to enjoy it. greeting an old lady he makes his way down towards the canal with a skip in his step.
he slides on his sunglasses as he turns around the corner stopping up gallantly to make way for, what looks like, a kindergarden class on a field trip. smiling he waves at the small children who stares up at him in wonder. their necks almost look as if they've been snapped backwards. it's a funny enough sight for him to be grinning all the way to the bagel shop where he greets the cashier loudly earning himself an eye-roll and a "the usual?" nodding in confirmation he steps outside to enjoy the sun while it's there. his eyes are closed and his face is facing the sun. there's a small smile permanently etched on his face.
it doesn't take long before the bagel guy comes out with a plastic bag containing two bagels and two cokes. "say hi from me" bagel guy says and hands him the bag. "i will." he slaps the exact amount of money into the waiting hand of the bagel guy.
the closer to the canal he gets the more youngsters appear. high school and college students who's been released early from classes probably. he nods to a few he knows and turns around the last corner, not stopping at the red light he crosses the street with a smile at the sight before him.
he's not the only one who's early, he muses to himself with a hum. there at the canal side a familiar figure lies, head poised on top of a backpack and snapback pulled down to shade the face. plugs in the ears as hands and feet are moving in carefully restricted movements.
grin breaking out again he crouches beside the lying figure and lifts the snapback before bending down to steal a peck from the lovely plush lips he hadn't tasted in what felt like forever but really was barely five hours.
they let out a groan and then he's pushed away.
"chanyeol we're in public."jongin glares at him, clearly annoyed. "a greeting kiss can't hurt." he pouts not feeling sorry at all. he bets no one noticed anyway.
"ugh, you're impossible." the smile tugging at the corner's of jongin's mouth gives away his act of being annoyed. chanyeol drops down to sit beside jongin who has finally sat up. he stretches his legs before letting them dangle out over the edge, careful not to let them too low so his black converse will be wet in disgusting canal water for the rest of the day. that's not an experience he wants to try again.
"I brought food." he holds up the plastic bag and immediately jongin is grabbing for it. "you're the best." with a quick look around he leans in and pecks chanyeol, which has him blushing and glaring when chanyeol opens his mouth.
"not a word" he mutters darkly and chanyeol obediently closes his mouth and settles for smirking self-satisfied.
jongin moans when he bites into his bagel, chanyeol looking at him amused as he unpacks his own. turning around to sit crossed legged mirroring jongin.
"how can the keep being this good?" jongin asks out loud to no one, chanyeol knows. "i don't know but he told me to say hi. so hi." rolling his eyes at the lame attempt of a joke jongin bites into his bagel again.
"you working on a new choreography?" chanyeol asks after a few minutes of silent eating and basking in the sunshine. jongin has slid on his sunglasses and chanyeol just want to laze around here with jongin for the rest of the day. preferred if he got to kiss him too but there's too many people around for that to be an option.
jongin raises his eyebrows in question, mouth still full of food. "you were moving your hands and feet when i arrived." swallowing the big lump of chewed food jongin looks down embarrassed. he never seems to realise that he's doing it.
"yeah. taem suddenly wanted me to help him with the spring showcase." humming to show he's listening chanyeol waits for jongin to continue. "there's some students at his studio that has showed interest in jazz and ballet. i'm making a choreo that's a mix of that and hip hop and the combination is seriously giving me a headache."
a stray strand of hair has stuck on jongin's forehead and chanyeol reaches out to gently remove it. he lets his fingertips caress jongin's cheek before he his hand falls and jongin leans into the touch with a happy sigh and closed eyes.
"so how was your day so far?" jongin asks when he opens his eyes. chanyeol is looking at him with soft fond eyes and he allows himself to return it shortly before looking out over the canal bridge.
“pretty good. the thursday regular came by and the new kid is still as incompetent as he was yesterday. i've been working on a new track.” he starts humming the melody that has been stuck on repeat in his head all day, watching a duck swimming by with her enthusiastic duckings in front of her, in the green canal water.
jongin has just finished guzzing the last of his coke when he stops humming. the younger looks at him with bright eyes and says, "sounds good. any lyrics yet?" chanyeol shrugs. he has some but they're beyond sappy and he doesn't want jongin to laugh so he keeps them to himself.
there's a dead fish in the water that floats by and chanyeol salutes it mentally to spare jongin the embarrassment he would no doubt feel if chanyeol did it physically. "not really, no."
jongin smiles and then checks his phone. "you'll read them for me when you do, right?" he asks as he packs up. chanyeol nods and wishes jongin didn't have to go back. someone else can sell skateboards to fourteen year olds.
"i'll look forward to it then. i have to go now, but thanks for lunch and i'll see you later okay?" chanyeol nods with a pout and when jongin moves to get up, chanyeol pulls him close and quickly pecks him twice.
"later." he whispers, and then jongin is up and walking away backwards grinning at him before turning around to break into a run. he knows the manager of the shop is surprising a hard ass when it comes to tardiness especially since all the employees are tardy skaters.
chanyeol stares solemnly into the canal and quirks an eyebrow when the dead fish floats by again but only this time not looking so dead.
"just sunbathing, huh?" he asks it with an soft amused tone before getting up as well. he better head back before the new kid burns down his store.

i just typed it in on my tablet
from my scribbles in my notebook.
i've decided i need to write at
least one-hundred words per day
to get in the flow again.
i might not upload everyday though.
i wrote this as i sat by the canal
on the picture if it's not obvious ~
