Oh, honey, I'm so so so sorry. What's the treatment he'll get? I know how much you wanted him there, is there any chance of postponing a bit? Most people would totally understand.

I'm very sorry and I completely understand. When my half-sister got married when I was 14, my dad didn't have the money to go out to CA and attend. I still regret that, all these years later. And, it's hard to be away from home while still being in a place you consider home. There's no easy solution, but can I offer a suggestion? A few years ago a friend of mine married a guy in the States, and he has a large amount of his family in the Philippines. Obviously a lot of them couldn't make it, so Paulo, being the techie guy that he is, set up a webcam so that the whole ceremony could be live broadcast at home (and really, anywhere in the world). Could you maybe try to set up something like that for your father? It's not the same, but maybe it would help a little.

I am so sorry your dad isn't going to be able to make it to your wedding. :-( I went through something similar with my own wedding situation - Ed's family in the UK mostly boycotted our wedding, only his mom made it at the last minute. My own dad managed to land himself in the hospital the morning of the wedding (he was already ill with various problems and had been drinking, hooray for messed up families) - so no dads were present

Old friends can be difficult I think, you never really know what is going on with people that you haven't seen in a while.
