A. Highly suspicious of brand new journals.

B. What did women and POC ever do to you? Garcia Marquez does not diversity make.

this list is like ostensibly the core of everything i have liked ever, whether it was written by a white or poc, man or woman

core murdermystery April 19 2009, 03:53:28 UTC
robbe grillet + beckett = new novel = marguerite duras, natalie surraute which leads to new narrative = kathy acker, dodie bellamy, camille roy

joyce (+ burroughs) = paving the way for censorship trials which lead to things like = the apocryphal pauline reage, diane bataille & catherine robbe-grillet (as jean de berg)

i can do this with POC too if you'd like

Joyce, Nabokov, and Beckett do NOT a list make.

Try imaging me saying that with the emphasis on the last two words to denote contempt and sarcasm.

actually i would be far more likely to consider a person with a list like this interesting than a list like the last one, which probably violates all expectations i have of myself.

That's something I've thought about, myself. dryride April 19 2009, 03:13:44 UTC
I don't dislike most lists, believe it or not.

I read a good chunk of "the canon" when I was just beginning to get into books. I can easily understand why so many lists have so many of the same titles.
