OMG how did I miss that? And Wealth of Nations. Hm, maybe this list is of alternative-universe imaginary Borgean books. That would be cool.

Yeah, The Grapes of Wrath also seems to be from an alternate universe.

I think I threw up in my mouth just now. This is almost as ridiculous as the 100 Greatest Writers of All Time list. I don't mind the making of such lists, even if they yield moronic outcomes like your referenced list about, but the espousing of them as absolute and incontrovertible is just ridiculous.

I'm also FAIRLY sure Plato wrote "The Republic of Plato".

I must also call bullshit on any list of "books for men" that doesn't include John Buchan, AEW Mason, Jim Cain, Sax Rohmer, H Rider Haggard, Jim Thompson, or Dashiell FUCKING Hammett

I totally agree. Just finished The Robber Bride, which wasn't fantastic but I can't remember the last time I read a book from a female POV. Then I read The Last Witchfinder, which is a male author writing a female protagonist, and it was truly excellent. Are there any other men who write good female narrators? I can't think of any at the moment.
