in which I geek about about a weird combination of books trachea December 8 2010, 00:52:29 UTC
This is a weird list, and tough to choose because I read a lot of good ones this year. It feels like I only read YA fiction, but then I look at the list and it's all non-fiction adult stuff. It's Our Turn To Eat: The Story of a Kenyan Whistleblower is unbelievably riveting. "Nigerian politics from the library's biography section? I'll suffer through, I guess, it in order to increase my moral fiber and whatnot." I WAS SO WRONG. The book is captivating! It's a freaking page-turner, brilliantly written and paced (and packed with information and sordid tales of shocking political corruption). I highly recommend it.

1) Lights Out in Wonderland by DBC Pierre (obviously!)
2) It's Our Turn To Eat: The Story of a Kenyan Whistleblower by Michela Wrong
3) Ain't No Makin' It: Aspirations and Attainment in a Low-Income Neighborhood by Jay MacLeod
4) Men, Women, and Chainsaws: Gender in the Modern Horror Film by Carol Clover
5) The Diary of a Teenage Girl by Phoebe Gloeckner

Other stuff I'd recommend that I really enjoyed: Vampire Academy: ( ... )
