That was beautiful. I had my head in my hand and the most wistful smile on my face when I was done reading it. Your girl!derek was broken and strong and frail and awkward as he is in canon with a type of feminity that was believeable and real. There's details that make her real. The not shaving legs is a crucial character detail that can't be overlooked. I think it's a true test to how much of a real woman Daria is. Media tends to portray woman as these icons of 'beauty' without exploring different ways a woman can be beautiful - that a woman isn't obligated to conform to a certain stereotype of prepubecent youthfulness ( ... )

oh my god what a lovely comment. genderswap is such a tricky thing to do because so many people are like automatically "NO HATE IT" so it's always a risk that you take. and then i was worried that i was being too subtle so it wouldn't be clear what i was trying to do, but YES. you got it ( ... )

Oh, this is fantastic! I love that characterization hasn't changed - because why would it, for either of them? - yet the genderswap highlighted the fundamentals of their relationship in new ways, those touch-points of strength and vulnerability, devotion and distance, courage and fear both within and between them. And the genderswap does not take the story into more traditional male/female romance narrative directions; instead, it reveals and reinterprets the canon, and that is the perfect subversion.

Plus, it's gorgeously written AND hella hot.

(I also love that she doesn't shave her legs, and he never even mentions it.)

thank you so much! a lot of people mentioned the shaving thing, so i'm glad that it seemed to stick in people's heads the way it did in mine. i was just like, I hate shaving, most women i know hate shaving, of course daria wouldn't even fucking bother with it. like - why would she? she probably doesn't even have a shower 90% of the time. and no way would stiles say anything because he probably doesn't care. he'd be the kind of lover that wouldn't get squeamish about embarrassing body things, i think.

thank you so much for reading and commenting, i'm really glad you enjoyed it. :)
