There was no reason for him to be upset or distracted or irritated by the sounds, but he was anyway.

It been happening a lot lately. Him getting upset for no reason. Upset over things.

The little things.

Like the letters.

All the letters.

All addressed to him.

Come to our school! Come learn at our University! Come be smart and happy and away - far, far away - from home!

Drake would often reach the mail first, pawing through the assortment of bills and advertisements, sorting out the college letters and slipping them into the trash bin.

They didn't even deserve to be recycled.

And yet Drake's efforts were futile. Josh had utilized the ever helpful and aiding internet to conduct his college research. And had picked out his top five.

Four of which were not in the state of California.

Three of which were all the way on the East Coast.

Five of which would mean Josh would be leaving Drake.

All of which Drake despised and loathed and cursed.

Just like that noise.

That noise that meant Josh was filling in his applications to all five of those schools. Writing essays and answering questions that will convince these schools that Josh Nichols is a qualified and worthy potential incoming freshman.

Drake hated it all. So much.

Because of these colleges, Josh would spend hours (hours upon hours) researching and writing and filling in and other stupid things. All this time and effort. All so Josh could get what he wanted most.

To be accepted.

To leave home.

To leave Drake.

Nothing could mask that noise. The sharp clicking, the fast paced clacking (where in the hell did Josh learn to type that fast? He didn't even have to watch his fingers, like Drake did).

It was all slowly getting on Drake's last nerve.

With every click.

And every clack.

And every pause Drake would hope that that moment would be the one where Josh would stop. Stop to spend time with Drake. Drake who surely is better than college applications, better than college period.

But the pause would only last a moment before Josh would continue.

Drake couldn't take it anymore.

Couldn't take the noise.

Couldn't take the thought.

Couldn't.

Getting up from his warm, burrow of blankets, Drake made his way down the ladder. He winced as his bare feet tenderly grazed the chilly, metal steps.

Josh sat in his own bundle of warmth on the couch, two fleeces and one wool covering him and protecting him from the chill of autumn. His computer sat on his lap, legs folded Indian style beneath the layers of blankets. Fingers flew across the keyboard, unfaltering and unaware of the slowly approaching figure.

Walking up to the back of the couch, Drake gazed down at his working brother. Sighing heavily, he reached around Josh's head and pulled the top of the laptop down.

Moving his fingers away out of instinctual reaction, Josh sputtered and whined.

"Hey! What are you - "

Grabbing hold of the computer, Drake lifted it up and away from Josh faster than he could react. Holding it above his head, Drake stared down at Josh, turned in his seat and disgruntled look plastering his face.

"Drake?! What do you think you're - "

Bending down swiftly, Drake planted a soft, light kiss onto Josh's lips. He caught him mid sentence, so there was a little bit of spit and almost a bite, but it proved effective.

Josh was shut up.

Carefully tossing the computer on top of Josh's bed, Drake turned back to his bewildered brother and gently encircled Josh's face with his hands.

"Forget that stupid computer. Make some time for me, your boyfriend."

And as Josh's eyes lit up and he clutched Drake to him closely, dragging him over the back on the couch and into his lap, Drake forgot about all the little things.

The letters.

The colleges.

The noise of the computer.

He let Josh's kisses consume him, Josh's touches cover him, Josh's warmth envelop him.

Drake would worry about the little things later. Right now, he was making time to be with Josh.

Who was making time to be with him.

Who was making him sigh and gasp and sweat and moan and love.
