by the union of christian faith and fate i meant the god has a plan for everyone idea and it is up to us whether to choose it or not. the end of that thought train that god knows what we will choose, so we really have no control over it, which is whats wrong, as we have total control of our actions.

ive yet to see a butterfly in new york, therefore your chaos theory is full of crizzap

more sound arguments to come

You're not looking hard enough, they're all over central park

chaos theory rules. It's arrogant to think that humans and humans' acts of free will are the sole cause of all of the bad things in the world

However, the whole adam and eve argument is there. That argument being that a human act of free will tore us away from perfection. However, with that argument, you could also blame women for absolutely every natural disaster (which wouldn't be so far off as we all know from watching women drive)

chaos theory rules!

Max.

Hate to be a pessimistic fuckhead, but oh well.

So humans are just a minor setback in the plan towards world perfection, eh? Wiping out god knows how many species, creating nuclear waste we cant get rid of, destroying the ozone layer, ripping down the rain forests and poluting the air, water and earth in general is just a minor setback. Not to mention the gross overpopulation of our species which helps magnify these already huge problems, and creating countless others. No, I'm not a "save the whales" bleeding heart liberal, i was just curious how all that ties in with your theory.

No, I don't mean to be a dick who's just trying to shoot you down, i just saw a flaw and felt it needed to be discussed.

Remember bio?

creatures go extinct because they cant adapt.

And maybe us destroying ourselves would make the universe more perfect. Who says it wouldnt?

Hmm, fair enough. Although that line of reasoning DOES beg the question "Why were we created in the first place if our existance is a blight?"

Tough stuff, and not anything I feel like delving into right now.

Not a bad discussion altogether, Brian.

Time to actually think before you numb brained losers talk. anonymous September 18 2004, 08:48:09 UTC
Well now, before you no-brained cave men think about free will and the like of complex ideas, how about we first discuss what free-will implies. To have free will means you are able to choose between good and bad. The problem wiht free will is that it assumes good and bad really do exist. There is no proof that good and bad exists, becasue we base good adn bad on personal feelings which can be very easily distorted and misinterpreted by numb-minded losers like the above commentators and writer. Good and bad does nto exists, thus free will can't exists in the first place, thus the writer has just wasted a whole lot of time trying to sound cool when really, Brian you are an ignorant ass hole. Glenn time to think instead of feeding abck the same nuclear shit that has infested your brain, your skull is micro-wave that nuked you brain into shit, you unoriginal dick. And as for you Max, Happy Birthday the party was killer. As for me i accpet the fac that i'm wrong and just hate my existence as well as those around me. So i guess i ( ... )

I assume from your post that you are atheist. Sorry for assuming, but the whole "no free-will, no heaven" thing kinda gave it away ( ... )

Oh, and... anonymous September 21 2004, 21:07:29 UTC
I almost forgot! Next time you use an old philosophy proof, please try to give credit to the original philosopher, or at least mention you are not the first to write this! Your original entry is basically a modernized version of a old philosophy proof (mentioned in Sophie's World, BTW) by a man who I can't exactly remember at the moment, possibly Kierkegaard, or MAYBE Kant; I think it was one of the Germans. I do know, however, that a very brief version of it was in my profile sophomore year, and I did a brief lecture on it in the after-school room once.

Thanks!

whoever it was i didnt read it. but a logical proof against free will would most likeley look very similar to any other, so im not suprised.

refute maybe sometime in the near future if i get around to looking at it in depth and am feeling philisophical
