[Personality]

When one looks at the twins, one sees one person reflected. They seem exactly the same, and they certainly do not strive to change that image, playing off of each other at all times. They speak in unison, like the same things, dress the same and act the same. They make it impossible to tell the two of them apart. They expect nothing of people’s abilities to differentiate between them and thus when they play their little game asking others to figure out which is which, they are merely taunting-they know the others will never win. They rig the game simply by being who they are.

Because to Hikaru and Kaoru, there is “them” and there is “us”. They and us do not cross; they have never had others to rely on, only each other, for in withdrawing and depending on each other, they only shut out others more, creating a cycle that made them only further depend on each other…and nobody else. So they are very dependent on each other, even despite recent developments.

Together, the twins have dozens of sides that they show, but in particular they have two different “acts” and a certain “true self” that they sometimes show.

Their first act is obvious: Kaoru and Hikaru are a not!ship. They make overly obvious romantic speeches and actions together, for that is their selling point and they know it. They can act as sincere as they please; it isn’t true, and the two of them know it. But it entertains them and brings in the customers and so they do it. It is doubtful if they will ever grow bored of this game, but if they do, they will simply…stop. In other words, it is simply an act that they keep up for amusement’s purposes (and also, perhaps, for Tamaki as well); it is not true in the least.

Not to say that the twins do not love each other-that would be a blatant lie. They care more about each other than they care about anyone. But it is not something they truly flaunt, for each of them knows it and that is truly all that matters to them. The twins are surprisingly grounded when it comes down to it, Kaoru in particular. They are perfectly aware of what they need-and it generally does not go past “each other”.

Though as a side-note: I saw grounded, but I do not mean down-to-earth. Both Kaoru and Hikaru are still “shitty rich kids” who expect a lot of the world and will not take less than they are due. This is particularly clear with their boredom syndrome-if it bores them, they are through with it. They do not care enough to take into account other’s feelings, for other people are simply toys.

But overall, the twins are simply troublemakers. They are the “devil type”, taunting people and pulling pranks (again, simply because it amuses them), and not caring what chaos they cause along the way because they always get away with it. They are manipulative and not above twisting people’s thoughts or feelings to suit their purposes; in fact, it’s simply another game. They can be rude, loud, obnoxious and outspoken. The twins are never concerned with not voicing their opinion; they will say it loudly and proudly, and if it causes trouble, all the better. Things will be more interesting that way.

But they aren’t truly horrible people; that’s another act, and while a lot of it is true, just as much of it is false.

They care. They have their moments of care, but they do not show how much they care in open ways. If they are being overly affectionate and you aren’t Haruhi, then they are probably plotting something.

But they are also intensely loyal once you win their friendship. They are clever and quick to think on their feet and extremely intelligent as well.

But overall, there are two worlds-Kaoru and Hikaru’s and everyone else’s, and the two worlds rarely cross.

Kaoru is not Hikaru, however, though it is easiest to describe him through contrast with his twin. The differences are clear if one looks for them.

Because Kaoru is more mature, though being younger. He is more able to empathize with people other than his twin and thus more able to understand both other’s emotions and his own and Hikaru’s as well. It is this understanding that makes him less able to view everyone as toys, and that leads him to act, generally, as follower and not instigator. In the end, his twin is more important than anyone, and others are toys, but they aren’t always toys.

Kaoru is gentler, quieter, slightly more introverted and thus more introspective there is a reason he plays the uke. He is the follower of the two, and he steps down and allows Hikaru to be that leader. Their dynamic works that way, and he knows it, and so he is content with that.

He is kinder in a self-sacrificial way. He would rather Hikaru be happy than he be happy, so he sees nothing wrong with some sacrifices to make that happen. But somehow, they manage to get by, even when Hikaru sees right through him, even when they are split in two.

Because they depend on each other and part of them always will.

So they truly are two parts of a while…and two individuals as well.

[Specialties/Abilities]

Being obnoxious? TWIN TAG TEAM POWERS?

No really. He's a normal human. He's intelligent and clever, and very, very good at being manipulative and altogether a bit of a prankster.

But really, he's just human. A teenager, in fact.

I'll try to not get him killed.

[Affection]

Thaaaat depends. If you aren't Hikaru or Haruhi, and he's being all huggy huggy in your personal space with you, he is likely plotting something.

Otherwise, there is the world of them and the world of 'us', and it is not easy to cross over into Kaoru's affections. You're most welcome to try, though.

[Fighting]

Fighting/injuring/maiming/killing: TALK TO ME FIRST. I'd rather Hikaru not suffer mind-shattering brainbreak because I let Kaoru die.

But he can't really fight beyond a teenage male, so, um. No fighting unless we talk about it first, annoying as he can be.

[Other Permissions]

Yes to fourth wall breaking (he might not believe you and/or find it hilarious), yes to telepathy, basically yes to everything within reason. If you aren't sure, just hit me up and we'll talk it over! <3
