I've got nothing really meaningful to say these days but somehow it makes me feel at peace.

oh ps: man I like bees. They are awesome. I think the way they buzz is inquisitive like: bzzz bzzzzz?

bzzzzzzz! c:

They're not terrifying okay. They sting you, you get a bit of a nick. However they get their bum and innards ripped out and they DIE. If anything ( Read more... )

I used to live on a 24th-storey penthouse, and one Christmas Eve morning THERE WAS A FUCKING COLONY OF BEES FLYING IN CIRCLES AROUND MY HOUSE. There are two units to a floor, but seriously they were just flying around mine. 24 storeys up. It was like the plague or something.

We called in an exterminator and the LOCAL NEWS CREW actually showed up. It rained when they got here and the bees were nowhere in sight (because the mysterious MissingNo like black cloud was gone), but the exterminators went out to check once the rain cleared up.

it turns out that they were just HIDING under this outcrop under my balcony. So many bees. Was scary for a bit, but mostly kind of "OMG" and "COOL".

I've never hard of this colony collapse disorder, though. *wiki*

ooooh thentheir original hive got too big so the old queen moved out with her gang to find a new place to build another hive.

I'm scared to ask: what happened to them in the end? Did they all die? ;A;

CCD's pretty scary. It's one of the main reasons why the bee population's been going down (other than habitat destruction and what not) ORZ I even tried planting more flowers this year but fjawklfjelawf I'm still not seeing as much as I'd like.

I used to be so afraid of bees as a kid. We had to read this book in class, and it was about how this kid died after getting stung by a bee, since it turned out he was allergic. That book pretty much scarred me for life, since I was worried that my parents wouldn't know whether I had an allergy to bees or not D:

AWWW ;A;

I actually... have this wierd affinity with them. Kids would run away screaming but I've never found them scary. Just stay still and rather than panic, just observe them. Ahaha I used to inch to garbage bins to watch them. TRUE STORY: once in elementry school one was buzzing around me in circles and I held out a finger. And after a bit it landed on me then it spat out some nectar then flew away. *u*

Ahaha I was so stunned and flattered. I just stared at that little gold bead on the tip of my finger. I TOTALLY LICKED IT.

It was sweet c:

I don't mind regular bees--it's the hornets/wasps/yellow jackets that I don't like. Because they can STING AND STING AND STING and they don't die from it. 8| AND IT HURTS LIKE A BITCH when you get stung a bazillion times in one small contained area just because your friends were all wearing leis to your high school graduation--

... NOT THAT I SPEAK FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, uh. But yes, I do hope that the GOOD bees won't be dying out! I saw a decent number buzzing around here this summer, so I hope that's a good sign for us? ;A;. I know the bee colony near Santa Cruz (which is less than an hour away from where I live) was alive and buzzin' the last time I drove past there, haha.

YEAH I FREAKING AGREE. Plus japanese giant hornets are BATSHIT. Unlike bees who live honorably and seflessly for their hive, hornets live for their queen. But after a queen gets too old and stops giving off the pheromones that control the workers... the workers, her own DAUGHTERS go KILL HER. Then they EAT THE LARVE AND KILL EACH OTHER AND IT'S FREAKING ANARCHY UNTIL THEY ALL DIE. But then after the surviving pupae drones and queens mature and mate. So the rest of whole fucking nest is DESTROYED with the exception of fertile progeny. IT'S SO SCREWED UP. ;A;

And awww it's really good to hear bees are doing well in your patch of the world ;u; GO BEES!
