I am by no stretch of the imagination an artist, but I agree with your views. I frequent art sites because I love finding out about great amateur artists. It's easy to break artists into three different categories: generic, copypasta (traces most of their work), and original.
While generic can be appealing, it lacks the quality that makes me visit the illustrations again and again. Copypasta just annoys me.
I followed your art via reborn fandom and really enjoy your style. One thing about long running manga and active fandom is the ability to observe the artists' transformations.
Hope to see more of your work. Also, Radiohead ftw. :P
I agree! My FAAAVORITE artists are the ones who have a clear, original style. You can look at it from among a huge gallery of pictures and know, immediately, who the artist is.
Granted, I do enjoy looking at pretty art for pretty's sake, even if the style is carbon copy lol. But it IS the more original ones that linger long afterwards :3
Totally off topic but I've just realized now that your background is by M P Mitchell. Totally by my own eyes not by checking on DA.
But I think that ties in with the issue of having a style. If you just become a copy of someone else, how's anyone supposed to recognize you for you?
However, this is totally hypocritical of me to say because I myself as an artist am a mishmash of several different artist's styles so much to say that I don't have a style at all. But, in the spirit of being positive some artists need to copy other artists in order to forge their own paths--eventually.
