I was icly copied on a fwd'ed fwd invite.
I even posted to the lists asking why I was invited...(insert generic Boot Squad quote) and I staked another PC so they wouldn't feel honor-bound icly.
The last proxy I went on was a mass cluster-f%ck...and I don't get why ST's are inviting pc's to their city to murder other PC's.
Though my character might want to go to try and stop the deaths....I have no desire at all to get involved in a huge scale proxy again.

I've rarely seen roleplay enhanced by proxies.
I've often seen roleplay completely screwed by proxies.
Time freezes, slow turn arounds, shifty rules calls, and no real recourse to do anything about it has led me to refuse to proxy in any large scene.
Personally, if I somehow got forced into a proxy, I would pull the character out as soon as I didn't get my weekly update.

Second, that scene should have been frozen right away given there is a dispute on how some custom Global Mechanics were used in the scene in question with no challenge or initiative (I was there so I heard it from both sides).
But I feel you on proxies. The good Mr. Remy forgot to spend my WP in the Tulsa one, and even though we all were rockstars, the Canada one bent my suspension of disbelief and scale to the edge.
