i think this was articulated very well and i'm really glad you brought it up. i love going to lexington market, i remember walking there from bolton hill one day with adam golfer actually.. it was a lovely walk. i have encountered a lot of that weird race stuff too with people here especially people i work with, since i work in fells point. Like my coworker walked up to that discount bedding store up Broadway on her lunch break, and our boss came by and was like "you went THERE?!? i can't believe you walked there by yourself". give me a fucking break hahaha! one shitty thing in baltimore is the sheltering of upper crust white people w/ all the private schools, and they pass it on from generation to generation.

and i think opinions of the city as a city / opinions of the city based on its people are very very linked on a deep level.

"in the white area" - I bet she's itching to live in the boondocks with country white folks. Or small towns where all the factories were shut down and there are no jobs.

But I totally feel you on this, it pisses me off too. Especially since the folks are the most scared are the least likely to get attacked, it's usually those "scary black and brown locals" who are the majority of the victims. And even so, they don't go around tightly clutching their pearls to their chest.
