Heh, I'm in the camp that has never been able to see the point of the Killers, so am neither disappointed nor surprised. But then I've never been able to see the point of the Stereophonics either. Their music seems to mostly have the right sort of notes in the right sort of places, but is just not really very interesting.
"Local Boy in a Photograph" and "More life in a Tramps Vest" were great, simple indie stomp along tunes. No pretense, no arena silliness. The album had a small town feel (not surprising). Some would compare it to early Small Faces.
Not sure if there's any real point to Indie Rock and Roll :)
To be fair, some mad sixties catastrophists do say the Nile used to flow from east to west so I suspect it's a cool reference to Velikovsky's "Worlds in collision" or similar.
The Killers are no loss, there's so much better stuff out there to be listening to. When I hear of folks liking the Stereophonics though I prefer to hear "Stereolab" or "Super Furry Animals" to avoid doubting their sanity.

I can't stand the "my signs are vital, my hands are cold" lyric myself. It makes me want to kill.
The Killers are now so pathetically shit that my coworker Carol likes them. Trust me, that is not a good sign.

Mm, I guess as genres go it's one of the more ideatively bankrupt ones ;-)
